The local 53 km long mountain bike route known as Bernina Express has as its namesake the legendary train route of the Rhaetian Railway and is every bit as diverse and inspiring. From Samedan, the route follows the Bernina Valley through a unique, beautiful mountain landscape, providing repeated views to the imposing glaciers of the Bernina Massif. At the pass summit, the route goes along the left shore of Lago Bianco, before the exciting descent into the Valley of Poschiavo begins. The sunny terrace of the Restaurant Belvedere or the buffet of the Alp Grüm Railway Station will provide refreshments and a welcome break. At Cavaglia the route passes the glacier garden before descending to Poschiavo.
